Write an autobiography? Really? I never considered it until a couple of my kids encouraged me to take the plunge. Come to find out, my life boils down to just over two hundred pages. Somehow it seemed longer, and come to find out, it was longer … about 40% longer than when it was first published. Funny how new memories flooded in just after the first book hit the market.
But the new memories just go to prove that my career at the biggest and busiest movie and television studio in the world was the greatest of adventures. I began as a tour guide, hoping that would catapult me into an acting career on par with Paul Newman or James Garner. But I soon discovered that performing in front of audiences was a perfect fit, and live stage shows at Universal Studios was the perfect venue.
My career went on to include hosting over 32,000 live shows (closer to 35,000 counting those away from Universal), managing the entertainment department, helping build the studio in Orlando, and working with countless celebrities, including President Ronald Reagan. It was a wonderful ride!

Donovan Bay, an idyllic community born in the early part of the 20th century, then reborn in the 50s, is a peaceful and picturesque little town nestled in a cove along the bay surrounded by hills. For the 19,000 folks living here life is dependable, routine even, and that’s comforting. The town has had the same sheriff for over thirty years, and the same mayor longer than anyone can remember. However, will the arrival of a stranger, Brody Lane, change the predictable lifestyle the town enjoys? Is Brody an opportunist bent on finding the Donovan Bay Treasure, or is he looking for a life different from the conflict and turmoil he left behind? Will he set Donovan Bay on a new course this Christmas?
I finished the last page of ‘Devotion’ by Jerry Green at 5:34 a.m. with the same feeling one has of drinking the last drops of a fine bottle of wine. I shed much tears as well. In fact, many emotions gripped me during the reading of the book. My wife read it when it came out and loved it. Throughout the book your father’s love for her [his wife, Princess Shams], one that lasted some fifty years, shines through as does his faith in God, love of family, King and Country. I smiled, laughed, felt proud and shed tears reading this excellent story. Set against a historical panoramic epoch it is also a tale of an amazing life but one led with love, courage, and as the title reveals, devotion. It is a very honest book and revealing. Few Iranians would bare their souls in such an open way and Jerry Green’s magic touch, writing style, and sensitivity enriched the text in ways that a dry history or biography would not have. Your father’s sense of humour, and his serous undertakings, coupled with the eccentric and complex relationship of your parents filled me with joy. There were many funny scenes to balance out the tragic and sad episodes experienced in your family. The revolution may have ended a way of life, but Mr. Mehrdad Pahlabod … even as he attained his 100th birthday … lived an extraordinary life during extraordinary times. This is a unique and very readable account of a marvellous man and his times.
